I put to ink a photo I took in 2013 during a road trip from Dallas to Anchorage. This was one of my first ink pieces.

JFK Memorial - Downtown Dallas

JFK Memorial - Downtown Dallas

For class we headed to Founders Plaza in downtown Dallas to draw any vantage point that we found interesting. It was the day after the 2016 Presidential election, and I was in a state of disbelief from the results. I think a lot of my friends could share the sentiment. As we were walking around I noticed that the JFK Memorial was right next to us. As I'm listening to a song by Ibeyi ("Oya") I approach the massive walls designed by Philip Johnson, and all of these emotions just flood through me.

It was just a right place, right time kind of moment that made me sit in front of this memorial and draw what I saw. The results of the current election is in no way comparable to the events that took place in Dallas on 22 November 1963, but it made me realize that I need to pay attention and more involved in current events. And to quote JFK:

"And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you -- ask what you can do for your country."
